If I Could Learn About Anything…

Initially after reading the description for this assignment I thought to myself, “oh perfect, I know exactly what I want to do.” I was thinking that I wanted to explore my family history and build a family tree. My family has an Ancestry account, and my aunt (on my mom’s side) has spent a couple of years working on it. On my dad’s side of the family, everyone is into family history. With that in mind, I decided that everything I would need is basically already set up for me, I would just have to add myself in. It wouldn’t be much work. So, I think I’ll save that project for another time.

With that idea shut down, I’ve been trying to think of what else I’d be interested in learning. Maybe how to change my own oil so I don’t have to rely on someone else to do it? But, I think I’d rather just pay someone to do that, it’s not something I’m really interested in. Maybe how to crotchet? I don’t think I’m patient enough for that.

Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while but haven’t yet is create a scrapbook. I know it seems pretty simple, but in the past when I’ve done similar crafts, they just don’t look as nice as I would like. I think there is definitely a skill set required to make it look nice. I would say I’m not very creative, which is something I would like to improve about myself. I think this could be a good opportunity to work on that and create something tangible at the same time. However, I’m not very patient and worry that the first time something doesn’t turn out the way I want it to, I might decide to give up.

I think there are a lot of learning opportunities with creating a scrapbook. I think it is something that would really push me in some ways, but also be very rewarding. It’s also something that I could continue doing for the rest of my life. Now that I’ve put some thought into it, I’m pretty excited to get started!

  1. Brianna, I love your idea to learn how to scrapbook! I know that some people really have a passion for creating scrapbooks of all sorts of things. I personally would not have the patience to do a time consuming craft project like that. I do think that if you have the patience to do it they are a great project. There are so many times that family members have pulled out their scrapbooks out and I have spent hours looking at them. I can not wait to see how your project turns out!

  2. That sounds like a wonderful idea! My aunt scrapbooks constantly and she is really good at it. I too have always been interested in doing it but like you, I’m just not very creative and I don’t do a very good job knowing what colors should go with what patterns and so on. I think that this will be a really awesome thing for you to spend the two hours a week on because in the end of all the time you will have proof of all the hard work you did! To me seeing the end result always helps me! Good luck on this!

  3. Scrapbooking can be incredibly relaxing once you get the hang of it. I scrapbooked for maybe 5 months before forgetting all about it. I can’t wait to read where your creativity takes you and how your scrapbook turns out!

  4. I also considered the topic of minor car mechanics, I don’t know how to change my own oil, and I barely know how to change a tire. I debated that one for awhile, but ultimately decided that I wouldn’t enjoy it. I chose an artistic method for myself personally and think you may enjoy that route as well!

    1. Although I would love to be more independent and be able to service my own car, I didn’t think I would really enjoy it either. If I’m going to spend a few hours a week doing something, I want to have fun doing it!

  5. Scrapbooking is a great idea. It allows students to be creative and I think would be very relaxing. My parents created a scrapbook for each of us and I absolutely love looking through all the memories we had together. I will absolutely make one for my children so this is a great idea!

  6. Brianna,
I have tried scrapebooking before but I am just not creative enough for it! I just cannot get my ideas on to the paper. I cannot wait to see what you can create. Maybe that will help spark some creativity in myself.
